Here we are
United by one aspect
Of our lives
Our childlessness
Combined with our childfulness
A paradox
Filled with joy and sorrow
Each in different measures
On different days
And somehow
Among our many distinctions
We are all the same
We have found a kinship here
That many of us have experienced only rarely elsewhere
How can this be
And yet it is

How can it be that the beauty of the sunrise fills my heart
That the colors are exactly what I need to see
How can it be that the sounds of the water can calm me
That the frequencies are exactly correct to be soothing
I don’t understand the chance or design that brought us together
I don’t understand why we all connect on so many levels
Independent of our stepmotherhood
I can only accept this gift
And be grateful
